Since a number of people are asking, me and Ritsuko are both fine. Osaka is far to the south of the center and we barely even felt it. Other than that we probably don't know any more than you do.
We don't know each other but my girlfriend is currently staying out in Osaka. Google just threw up your blog post while I was looking for information so I'm very glad that you (and by implication, she..) are unaffected. Given that, thanks for posting this :)
We felt it here, but there has been very little damage - a few people have gotten hurt here is all. Nothing compared to Tohoku. If you have family here you have nothing to worry about.
As for the larger picture, nobody knows the full extent still. A number of villages have been completely washed away by a tsunami, and there's whole areas with very little information. I don't think we'll have a good picture until this time tomorrow.
I just read your blog as I am about to leave for Osaka in a week, and then there's this earthquake! Thanks for posting this blog. Do continue to post updates - my goodness, this is a terrible disaster....
My California daughter is attending Kansai University for the semester. She's used to earthquakes, but not like this! Glad to know you are all well and safe.
