The color cast underwater is pretty pronounced, and adjusting color from an 8-bit Jpeg is just asking for trouble. One benefit of film is that you have very wide exposure latitude and a raw image no matter how cheap the camera. A major reason these scans of mine still look as good as they do is precisely because I have the leeway to adjust them properly.

Also, at 35mm the D10 lens just isn't wide enough for much underwater photography. Fine for a crystal clear pool or beach, but go down a little deeper, or hazy water and you can't get close enough to take many subjects.

A better choice for a compact today would be the Panasonic TS3 (FT3 here in Japan). No RAW but at least a wider lens, and the image quality is comparable to or better than the D10.

For a serious choice you need to go with a separate housing, where you can pick from a wider choice of cameras, with whatever features you like. Of course, the price goes right up along with it...Jan Morenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06834641501438709866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-48746128953052810992011-06-08T03:08:34.743+09:002011-06-08T03:08:34.743+09:00thank you - I don't expect to see uncrowded pl...thank you - I don't expect to see uncrowded places in Japan, these scenes are very pleasant..

I had a waterproof Canon until it leaked, ten years ago, but its pictures were no better than the ones here from the disposable. I've been thinking about the Canon D10 which seems
reasonable.Doug Khttp://dkretzmann.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
