You're right, the KantÅ power company sourced their stuff from Germany and Kansai from the US.Jan Morenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06834641501438709866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-84270244397718222522012-04-24T05:28:26.030+09:002012-04-24T05:28:26.030+09:00Are you sure about the origins of the electrical s...Are you sure about the origins of the electrical systems? I'm just asking because today, the US have 60Hz and here in Germany it's 50Hz.

Just an unimportant Detail, though.Danielnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-16449976779585079722012-04-17T15:20:58.124+09:002012-04-17T15:20:58.124+09:0050/60 Hz probably mattered little in the days of t...50/60 Hz probably mattered little in the days of the need to just heat/light a filament. It is an interesting inconvenience which resulted in the electrical manufacturers having to cope with both geographies, which also may have had minor export advantages. At least the domestic line voltages are the same.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-20891110814755889232012-04-17T07:18:39.825+09:002012-04-17T07:18:39.825+09:00All soup stocks I've seen in Japan are made on...All soup stocks I've seen in Japan are made on konbu (kelp), dried fish or katsuobushi. The main difference probably is in the type (and amount) of soy sauce they use.

I generally prefer the lighter soup for soba as well, though. This cup noodle was different.Jan Morenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06834641501438709866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-58873943466433349022012-04-17T05:58:11.080+09:002012-04-17T05:58:11.080+09:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203332408191268545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-75830930274126864072012-04-17T05:58:06.935+09:002012-04-17T05:58:06.935+09:00Addendum: Apparently Kanto broth also includes kel...Addendum: Apparently Kanto broth also includes kelp but less of it. In addition, the Kansai broth uses larger portions of small dried sardines, and other dried fishes such as 'iriko'.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203332408191268545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-77838776852360121942012-04-17T05:52:53.316+09:002012-04-17T05:52:53.316+09:00It makes senes that you prefer the Eastern soba an...It makes senes that you prefer the Eastern soba and the Western udon, as (buckwheat) soba comes from the East and goes well with the dark Kanto-style soup. While udon is from the West and matches well with the lighter Kansai-style soup. The extra seafood flavor of the Kansai broth is a result of kelp in addition to the bono flakes in both styles of soup.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203332408191268545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-22369752114534240122012-04-16T23:02:17.242+09:002012-04-16T23:02:17.242+09:00As long as it gives me an excuse to eat instant no...As long as it gives me an excuse to eat instant noodles. ^_^

Hmm, wonder if there's a regional difference in beer...Jan Morenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06834641501438709866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455782214242472677.post-52237079100895463282012-04-16T22:53:02.803+09:002012-04-16T22:53:02.803+09:00wow this is really interesting.
